Youth Orchestra of the Rockies

YOR logoThank you for your interest in the Youth Orchestras of the Rockies! It is our mission, through the study and performance of orchestral music, to build community and to enrich the lives of young musicians.

The YOR is administered by the Colorado Chamber Orchestra. Music Director Thomas A. Blomster and Ms. Noriko Nikki Tsuchiya are handling all administrative duties for the YOR.

SPRING 2015:

OUR SPRING CONCERT IS SATURDAY, MAY 9, 2015, 2:00 PM, University Center for the Arts! Baylee Schell, violist, is our Concerto Competition Winner this year and will be performing the first movement of Forsyth’s Viola Concerto!


Regular rehearsals for the spring semester resume Sunday, January 11 from 3 – 5:30 PM at Ridgeview Classical School. This is an open rehearsal, bring your friends!!!

On Sunday, January 25 we will hold seating auditions. We will send out excerpts from the spring program that we would like to hear soon.

Sunday, February 8 we will hold our annual concerto competition at 3:00 PM. Depending on the number of applicants, we may have a short rehearsal after the competition. All current members of the YOR are eligible for the competition except past winners. An application blank will be available and in your folders at rehearsals and sent to you via email.

We will not have a rehearsal on the first Sunday, March 15 of Poudre School District spring break, but we will rehearse Sunday, March 22. We know that some of you will not be able to be at either rehearsal, or your school district may be on a different schedule. Please let us know when you won’t be present at rehearsal.

There is also NO REHEARSAL Sunday, April 5 Easter.

A calendar for the Spring semester will be available and in your folders at rehearsals and sent to you via email.

Here is the program for the spring semester. This is a program of orchestral “bon-bons”! Will be super fun!

1. Baccahnale from Samson and Delilah by Camille Saint-Saens
2. Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 by Edvard Grieg
3. Ascendent (world premiere) by Selena Wellington (featuring Rica Ramirez, saxophones)
4. L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2 by Georges Bizet
5. Comedian’s Galop by Dmitry Kabalevsky (featuring Cammy Swab, xylophone)
6. Jump by Van Halen
7. Forsyth Viola Concerto, Movement One with Baylee Schell, viola, YOR 2015 Concerto Competition Winner.

For seating auditions, we require one major and one minor scale, two octaves, students choice which scales to perform. Also prepare two excerpts from this springs repertoire selected by Music Director Thomas A. Blomster in consultation with YOR mentors.

TUITION: There is a non-refundable registration/music fee of $25 per student. The tuition is $65 per month. There are 3 months of rehearsals during the fall semester for a total of $195.00 and 4 months of rehearsals during the spring for a total of $260.00. You may pay by the month or for each semester.
